Most people find State Shift because someone sent them a link. A session, a challenge, a video from the studio floor. Then they come back looking for more.

This page is where we gather the more. Notes on breath, on the nervous system, on the difference between an experience and a practice. Written the same way we teach: grounded, specific, and short enough to read on a phone between meetings.

What to expect here

Nothing generic. No listicles, no "10 breathing techniques you didn't know". Every piece we publish is something we've actually taught in the studio, tested in workshops, or run with facilitator trainees. If it's not useful in your body, it's not worth writing down.

Expect posts on:

  • Mechanics. What breathing well actually looks like. Where the diaphragm sits. What most people are doing instead.
  • Nervous system. Why breath is the shortest lever you have on stress, sleep, recovery, and focus.
  • Practice. How to build one that survives the days you don't feel like it.
  • The work. Notes from the studio floor, workshops, and the challenges.

Where to start if you're new

You already have the thing that makes any of this work. Your breath.

If you want a structured place to begin, Breathless is our three week breath training challenge, built around CO2 tolerance. If you want to work in person, our workshops and 1:1 coaching are in Ottawa. Corporate breathwork programs are here.

Everything else, we'll write down as we go.
